A great old lock in a traditional art form...why don't we do that anymore? Nice Mary.
Mary Machare replied:
Instead we have throwaways... these lasted a century or two! Thanks for stopping by, Skip!

Mary, This is GORGEOUS~ What artistry! A Fleur de lis... (not spelled right) flower lock! Wow, I hope you submit these great doors to Ivete's Balcony, Doors, and Windows group! Great find! FV

Reminds me of a line from Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein. I won't repeat it here out of a sense of decorum and respect for others. Hopefully, there are more than one or two who will remember the line. But I digress. You have captured a wonderful image of this ancient lock. Whatever possessed us as a culture to leave behind this form of craftsmanship in favor of doors that can be unlocked with little bits of brass that fit into equally tiny mechanisms? voted, favorite, promoted as Daily Favorite. Very well done and apologies for my ramble.
Mary Machare replied:
I had to smile at your digression, William. It's been a while since I thought of Young Frankenstein. I agree that today's products often lack the beauty that would make them lasting and treasured belongings. Thank you for your support and kind comments.

Fantastic shot! I love the beautiful ornate details and craftmenship! I wish we could get back to creating things of beauty and longevity now adays instead of quick prefab junk of partical board. v.f
