Description
To visit Quinta da Regaleira is to enter a lost world of the Belle Epoque and the mysteries of alchemy, Masonry, and the Knights Templar. In 1892 millionaire Carvalho Monteiro purchased the land in Sintra, Portugal, for 25,000 réis. Monteiro was eager to build a bewildering place where he could collect symbols that reflected his interests and ideologies. With the assistance of the Italian architect Luigi Manini, he recreated the 4-hectare estate to reflect his interests. With a background in architecture and theater design, Manini brought Monteiro's vision to life.
