Walking past the castle-turned-hotel at the edge of the Rosarium in Baden bei Wien, I found white roses laid upon a table being set for an afternoon wedding. This is a very romantic place, where stone steps lead to a green lawn and a gently sloped, grass covered hill at the edge of the rose garden.
The staff of the Hotel Schloss Weikersdorf was bustling about, but kindly allowed me to take photos of the table.
Had this been a true photoshoot, the linens would have been pressed to perfection and laid perfectly across to form a straight line. Since this was not the case, I decided to manipulated the photo digitally to make the wrinkles seem a natural part of the photo.
I wanted to give the entire photo an antique look, so I increased the yellow and black values, applied textures and added a bit of a blur for a dreamy quality. At the end, I added a subtle vignette to highlight the flowers in the composition.

As a designer, I try to find the little twist that sparks a connection, a wave of delight. When not otherwise occupied with developing brands, logos, packaging and trade show displays, I travel with my artist husband in search of inspiration. Many of the photos are from my home state of Wisconsin and from Spain and Peru. Wherever we go, the camera is in my hand, capturing the little things that inspire awe or make me smile. And because I love to tinker, I often play in Photoshop to create unique results.
